Getting started with Rent Party

Rent Party is a property-trading party game for friends and family. Take on friends online or around one phone, or play CPU characters offline, then pause any game and pick it up days later.

You roll two dice, buy the unowned streets you land on, trade for full color sets, and build houses and hotels so the rent on your streets keeps climbing. The game runs the bank. The last player who isn’t bankrupt wins.

Three ways to pull up a chair

  • Online. Live tonight, or one turn at a time over days. Online play needs an account: sign in with Google to start or join a room. Online play covers rooms, invites and timers.
  • Pass-and-play. 2 to 6 people, one phone or tablet, one crowded couch. Each time the phone changes hands, a hand-off screen keeps your trades and auction bids private. No account, no internet, no peeking.
  • CPU characters. Rivals with names, personalities and opinions, on Easy, Normal, Hard or Expert. No account, no signal, and every move saves on your device. Meet the rivals.

How do you start a game?

  1. Open Start a game and pick your kind of game night: Online, Pass-and-play or CPU characters.
  2. Players. Who’s at the table? 2 to 6 players, up to 5 of them CPU characters. Every seat gets a name and a token.
  3. Board. Kettleford comes with the game. The others are earned with coins in the shop. Every board plays by the same rules.
  4. House rules. Pick a preset or switch rules on one at a time. House rules lists them all.
  5. Ready to roll. Check the summary, then choose Start game. For an online game, the last step is Create room, and your friends join with a game invite.

Got a room code or an invite link? Put it under Join a room on the Start a game page and take your seat.

Do you need an account?

No. Pass-and-play and CPU games work without one, and they’re saved on this device. Sign in with Google to play online, keep cloud saves and earn coins. Your account covers what signing in adds.

Where does Rent Party run?

Rent Party runs in a current browser on phones, tablets and computers, iPhone and iPad included, with the same game, the same account and the same table everywhere. It isn’t in an app store yet.

Once you’re signed in, your games follow you from screen to screen. In your phone’s browser it’s laid out like an app. On a computer you get the full board, with room for your deeds.

When the Start a game page offers Install Rent Party, choosing Install adds it to your home screen, so you can start pass-and-play or CPU games offline in one tap. On iPhone or iPad, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen.
